Increase to Minimum Wage Announced.

The Fair Work Commission recently announced a minimum wage increase of 3.3%. The increase, which will come into effect on the 1st July, will apply to Modern Awards and the National Minimum Wage Order. Both employer and employee groups expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, with the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry claiming it will make it more difficult for small business to hire new staff, while the Australian Council of Trade Unions described it as a “double hit” for employees after the recent decision to cut penalty rates.
